Before you send: make it sound like you
Use these examples as scaffolding, not as a costume. If a line sounds too formal for you, simplify it. If it sounds too soft, make the decision sentence clearer. Read the text once out loud. If you would be embarrassed to hear it read back in a calm room, revise it before sending.
The best breakup text usually has three parts: “I am ending this,” “here is the simplest honest reason,” and “here is the boundary after this.” Everything else is optional.
